Success: Keep it Simple

2016: resolutions, goals, expectations. A blank slate. Opportunities for new client acquisitions, increased market share, greater brand awareness. Whether you spent the holidays on a sofa, on a beach, or on a mountain, more than likely you had at least one daydream of a brighter 2016. Unfortunately, most dreams are not realized. This year can be different. Dreams can come true. No magic mantra. No silver bullets. Three simple principles.

World Business teamwork puzzle pieces

Principle #1. Talk less, listen more. Purpose to be known as the best listener in your organization. Better still, purpose to be known as your clients’ best listener. Listening creates trust. No matter how smooth your voice is, people like the sound of their own voice better. You can know what people want if you listen to their needs.

Principle #2. Focus first on value, not sales. Once you listen to what people need and value, purpose to be a value provider. Use your connections and networks to link people to what they value. Become a repository of value. In today’s digitally driven market, buyers are increasingly calloused to sales pitchers. Conversely, when needs intersect with value, relationships develop. You can consistently monetize when you are known as a value provider.

Principle #3. Value is valuable. People willingly exchange currency for results, within reason and budget.  Many workplaces need outside solutions for the following reasons. Distractions escalate. Margins deteriorate. Economies fluctuate. Buyers evaluate. Knowing these realities provides you the opportunity to integrate the solutions and results you offer into a value proposition, adding success to both parties.

Listen to understand. Engage people to learn what they value. Provide the value. Develop the relationship. Monetize the results. You succeed when others succeed.
